We hosted sports historian and writer Şevket Furkan Erbay at the 33rd event of the Sports Studies Center (SCM) Seminar Series.
The 33rd event of the SCM Seminar Series, which has been organized in many areas where sports and social sciences intersect, was held under the title “Critical Thresholds of Sports in Turkey”. Sports historian and writer Şevket Furkan Erbay took part as a speaker at the event held at Kadir Has University Cibali Campus.
Referring to five breaking moments in Turkish sports history, Erbay talked about the national stadium perception of 19 Mayıs Stadium, which opened in 1936, the positive reflections of the success achieved in the 1948 London Olympics, how the Mediterranean Games in 1971 transformed Izmir into a sports capital, the changing perception of performance sports after the asylum of Naim Süleymanoğlu in 1986, the start of encrypted broadcasts in 1992 and the events in sports media. He shared posts about erosion.
The event ended with Şevket Furkan Erbay signing his newly released book ‘Smart and Agile’ for the participants.
